Dear Nurturer,
I hope you know that no matter how much the naira goes up or down, the support that Neo Childcare has to offer will always be consistent with your needs 🥰🥰🥰.
Don’t let all the festivities of the new baby arrival distract you from creating a safe space for your baby. Keep reading to know some of the tips that worked for us.
Creating A Safe Environment For Your New Born
Newborns develop best in environments where they can have secure relationships with caring and responsive adults, and where they feel safe. One key way babies learn is by exploring their environment. Here are some tips that helped us out:
Clean Not Sterile Environment
We all know they are new borns and we want absolutely nothing to touch them or harm them but too much of this can be harmful as well. Your environment needs to be clean and tidy but try to refrain from using harsh chemicals and antibacterials as it can be toxic and cause breathing issues when inhaled, besides it’s your house is a home not an operating theatre.
Vigilance
Be observant of any changes as they grow and develop. If you have to leave them to do something, put them within range of sight or easy access and if not get a baby monitor so you can see and hear them. No actual need to be inspecting their hands and their nose every 5 minutes .😂
Safe Boundaries
You know how babies are so squishy and cute and everyone seeing them wants to pull their cheeks and plant kisses on their face. Well… ❌❌❌❌
While a lot of people can’t help themselves but to do so, encourage them to wash their hands before they touch your baby and also emphasise the need to refrain from kissing the baby, if you are too shy to do that, swaddle them to your chest.
Safe Sleep
If you have a baby like mine then you know it’s a co-sleepinglife for you.
Any method of sleeping is good if done safely and if you can’t follow the rules, use a cot. For cots you only need a tight fitting bed sheet and fitted blankets, no loose clothing or toys.
To co-sleep please don’t sandwich your baby between you and your partner. Also keep your baby’s area free of pillows, blankets, extra clothing and away from the wall.
P.S: if one of the parents smoke, pls DO NOT CO-SLEEP.
REST WHEN YOU CAN
You guessed right😌, a safe environment begins with you. Being overly exhausted can be harmful to your new born. You may not have your wits about you and miss out on something important. You might even fall asleep without your control and leave your baby unattended. This can be dangerous and unsafe, so please take care and look after yourself.
I hope these few tips help. Till next time.
Love Always,
Ni’mah
